BOOOOOK REVIEWWWW

I got back into reading in 2023—post-breakup, post-burnout, post-“I need to get my life together.” And let me just say, some of these books read me . So here’s my top 10 from the past two years:

1. Why Men Love Bitches – Sherry Argov
This one was my emotional support book after a breakup. Super easy to follow and filled with blunt advice that slaps you back to reality.

  • Stop doing wife-level acts on a girlfriend (or worse, situationship) salary - GUILTY

  • Being kind ≠ being a doormat. Some of y’all missed that memo.

  • Have hobbies. Stop making men your entire hobby.

2. Single On Purpose – John Kim
Another post-breakup read, and honestly, a gem.

  • John Kim (aka The Angry Therapist) is hilarious and brutally honest.

  • He encourages you to date yourself, reconnect with childhood hobbies, and stop romanticizing relationships that already ran their course.

  • It’s like getting advice from your funny older brother who went to therapy and actually did the work.

3. The Angry Therapist: A No BS Guide to Finding and Living Your Own Truth – John Kim
Clearly, I was in my “Angry Therapist” era.

  • Great for burnout and identity crises.

  • Full of real-life stories, humor, and a reminder that you're not crazy—you're just fried.

  • If you feel like you're losing yourself, this book hands you a flashlight.

4. Anxiety: Panicking About Panic – Joshua Fletcher
I cannot recommend this one enough if you deal with panic attacks.

  • It breaks down the science behind anxiety in plain English.

  • Gives you actual coping tools, not fluff.

  • After reading it, I fully believe I could teach Neuroscience 101.

5. Pineapple Street – Jenny Jackson
Needed a little fiction and this one delivered.

  • A story about a wealthy family in Brooklyn—think romance, family drama, and self-discovery all in one.

  • Each sibling gets their own narrative, which keeps it fresh.

  • Feel-good without being predictable. I’d recommend it for your beach bag or rainy day binge.

6. Habits of a Godly Woman – Joyce Rogers
One of my favorites for faith-building.

  • No sugar-coating here—just real advice on how to live out God’s calling for your life.

  • Helped me deepen my relationship with the Lord in ways that actually stuck.

  • I still use lessons from this book daily.

7. The Four Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz
A spiritual classic for a reason.

  • Organized and easy to read.

  • Helps you untangle your thoughts and stop taking things personally (a constant battle).

  • A good entry point into mindset work and personal growth.

8. Don’t Believe Everything You Think – Joseph Nguyen
Another anxiety fave.

  • Focused on thought rewiring and breaking free from your own mental loops.

  • It’s like a brain detox with encouraging notes in the margins.

  • 10/10 if your inner voice likes to yell.

9. Be Ready When Luck Happens – Ina Garten

  • Ina shares her life story with such warmth, you forget you’re not actually sitting in her kitchen.

  • It starts with her love story with Jeffrey (iconic) but goes deeper into career pivots, identity, and trusting the timing of your life.

  • Big theme? You don’t always know what’s coming, but you can be ready when luck happens.

  • It reminded me to stop white-knuckling every detail and let life surprise me. Also: the woman makes roast chicken sound poetic.

  • MY FAVORITE BOOK

10. DARE – Barry McDonagh
This one saved me.

  • Hands-down the best book I’ve ever read on anxiety and panic.

  • The DARE method is simple, effective, and something I use weekly, if not daily.

  • If you struggle with panic attacks, skip the fluff and read this.
